Beautiful vintage scale with Delft blue ornamentation. Other scales I have seen pictures of similar to this have a much smaller enameled front; the blue and white front of this one is over 10 1/2 inches tall and 7 1/4 inches wide and it is very eye catching. Even the cast iron back of the scale has a nice design on it, looks sort of Art Nouveau to me. The bowl cradle at the top has a four heart pattern.Haushalt Wage means household scale. I understand a more current way to say this would be Haushaltswaage.
Still in working condition and fairly accurate (I weighted a can of Coke on my postal scale and it was 368 grams - on the scale, it looked like the needle was just a bit past the 350 mark). The scale can be adjusted by turning a small knob on the back.
The scale measures 13 inches high to the top of the bowl holder, 7 1/4 inches wide at the widest point, and 4 inches deep.
Great condition overall. There are some chips and wear spots along the edge of the enameled front, the largest of which is on the left and is about 1/4 inch long - this one is deep enough to go through to the metal underneath. The other chips on the edge are much smaller and you can really only notice them if you look close. The metal on the top overall has a rusty color and there is only a bit of silver plating left on the front of the post below the bowl cradle. There are four screws in the front of the scale - these are rusty, but there is no actual rust staining of the enamel around them. The back of the scale has aged to a very nice golden brown color.
There is no plate or bowl to put on the top but it certainly can be displayed as is.
