Unless I have provided a flat rate shipping fee, the cost is always calculated by the carrier using the box size, shipping weight, and delivery location. I use a standard size box that is the closest in size to your item. I always leave enough room for proper packing material. When I provide the weight of your item, this is the packed weight. Yes, the box and packing material add weight which can sometimes effect the cost in a major way. To help the environment, I will sometimes reuse a box. If I end up shipping your item in a slightly larger box, you are never charged any additional fees. I will not customize a box size unless I absolutely have to!
