Vintage Blue & White Enameled Cast Iron Scale with 6 Original Weights & Tin Pan.
I purchased this piece in an antique shop in Hansdorf, Australia in 1998. (Hansdorf is a small town that was settled by Lutherans in the 19th century and is known for its German style architecture and German style beer and food restaurants and butchers.). I was working and living in Adelaide at the time and was able to collect a number of English, Canadian and German antiques in the town’s shops. These pieces have graced my home for years. In fact this scale has sat on my kitchen counter for over 20 years with fresh lemons or limes from our fruit trees here in California.
I can’t read the raised lettering on the scale but I have taken photos of it for you. The 6 cast iron weights are original. The tin pan is also. The pan measures approximately 7” by 10.50”. When the pan and weights are on the scale it stands 9” high and approximately 12” long. I do think the black bars could have been repainted many years ago. The enamel finish shows wear and damage but in my opinion doesn’t detract from the piece itself. I was told the scale came from Canada and I believe that to be true. I believe it is from the 1930s. I am going to list an early iron that has a similar look next. It is from the same store and it has been housed in my laundry room for the same period of time.
