    OUTDOOR 1/2 PLATE RUBY AMBROTYPE - LARGE GROUP OF GENTLEMEN - INSIDE FULL CASE

    I can confidently say I could count on one hand the number of half plate ruby ambrotypes I have ever seen in the ten years of collecting hard plates. The large group of men is quite unusual to see captured outdoors and one has to speculate as to why they gathered for this portrait. Were they part of a fraternal order, a group of businessmen or were they attending a special event? Although the reason maybe lost, the image has captured these men in a moment in time, circa early 1860's by their attire. The dark area on the far right is not from damage, but appears the photographer did not pull his dark slide all the way from his camera. The image remains bold and resides in a beautiful full case with the original hinge still intact. Good luck adding this fantastic ambrotype to your collection.

    Please view my detailed photos for the actual condition of the image and as part of my description. There is absolutely no retouching to my iPhone listing photos; what you see is what you get. The half plate was created on a dark piece of ruby glass. The overall image contains very good contrast, tonal range and sharpness. Again, the
    dark area on the far right is not from damage, but appears the photographer did not pull his dark slide all the way from his camera.
    The case miraculously contains the original hinge, both of the working latches and a beautiful red velvet plush. I am sure you will enjoy rare outdoor half plate in your personal collection.
