    Description

Lot of Antique, made in Chicago Illinois by Fairbanks & Greenleaf, brass grain testing hanging scales, buckets and weights. This lot was purchased together and came as you see it. As I knew nothing about this type of scale, I did a little research and found that the addition of Greenleaf to Fairbanks was added around 1870, was only used for a short period of time and so that helps with their dating.
The stamping on parts have the numbers 1287, 12 , 7 and how they go together I have no idea but if you are looking at them I am sure you do. The large bucket is bent around the rim as is its handle, it measures 5 3/4" H x 5 3/4" W, the smaller bucket measures 3 1/8" H x 2 7/8" W, the US 1287 weight weighs 7.4 oz., the scales look to be in oz. and the one with Greenleaf I am not sure about.

Answer to a question about balancing the buckets and scale:
The small one seems to balance and that bucket has no number but the lever has 12 as does the weight. The larger bucket is marked 1287 and the lever used is marked 1287 as is the sliding weight. My engineer husband said that the larger bucket was a little light for the scale so you would have to add weight to tare it to get to a zero point. See pictures...
