AMC/ Jeep 4.0L cam gear bolt kit.  This kit includes bolt, spring and pin.
AERA membership has reported a mysterious knocking noise on Chrysler 2.5, 4.0 and 4.2L engines used in various Jeep utility vehicles.  The noise is loudest at the lower front area of the engine and has, on occasion, been reported in all of the above listed engines.  The noise will disappear if the engine is operated at higher than idle speed. Disassembly of the engine revealed that the camshaft gear was making contact with the timing cover.  Recalling the engine's assembly, several machinists remembered encountering a bolt that had a 1/8 hole in it.  Most were unsure where to install the bolt. As of the 1991 production year, Chrysler has updated the engine to a new method of retaining the camshaft in the block.  Prior model year engines were equipped with a camshaft thrust plate.  This has been superseded by a special bolt, spring; plunger and front cover (see illustration).  The plunger assembly maintains constant pressure on the camshaft, preventing it from moving forward.  Camshaft chucking will result if this thrust control assembly is not reinstalled.  The pin rests against a small protruding pad in the front cover that is reported to be 1.000 from the gasket mounting surface.

WARRANTY
LIMITED WARRANTY:
ENGINEQUEST warrants to the original purchaser that during the Warranty Period, the product sold by us with this warranty (the Product) shall be free of defects in material and workmanship under normal use and with periodic maintenance as recommended by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) subject to the following terms and conditions.
WARRANTY PERIOD
: 12 months from date of purchase from ENGINEQUEST or the length of the engine warranty, whichever comes first.
THESE ARE ENGINEQUEST'S ONLY WARRANTIES. EXCEPT FOR THE WARRANTY ABOVE, ENGINEQUEST
MAKES NO WARRANTY WHATSOEVER WITH RESPECT TO THE PRODUCT, INCLUDING ANY (i) WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY; (ii) WARRANTY OF FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE; OR (C) WARRANTY AGAINST INFRINGEMENT OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF A THIRD PARTY; WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED BY LAW, COURSE OF DEALING, COURSE OF PERFORMANCE, USAGE OF TRADE OR OTHERWISE.
STANDARDS
: Subject to limitations listed herein, ENGINEQUEST, at its option, shall repair or replace a product within the warranty term after determination by ENGINEQUEST that the product is defective. All repairs and/or replacements covered by this warranty must be authorized in advance by ENGINEQUEST. Unauthorized repairs will not be paid. Remanufactured oil pump and timing cover warranty is void if pump cover has been removed or altered in any way. We assume no liability unless we are contacted before any work is done.
LIMITATIONS
: This warranty only applies to Products originally supplied by ENGINEQUEST. This warranty is not transferrable and does not apply to or include any of the following: (
1) Damage as a result of an act of God, misuse, abuse, accident, over-heating, lack of lubrication, contamination, or improper use, installation, operation or maintenance; (
2) Repair or replacement of any accessory or service item, including but not limited to: (a) all components of the cooling, fuel, electrical and ignition systems; and
(b) all belts, hoses, and filters;
(3) Any Product used for competition racing or similar or related purposes; (4) Any Product to which a device or accessory not conforming to original manufacturer's specifications has been installed; (5) Any Product on which periodic maintenance services required by the original manufacturer have not been performed; and (6) Any Product that has been modified or disassembled without the prior written authorization from ENGINEQUEST. Crankshaft warranty requires installation of new harmonic balancer at time of crankshaft installation. ENGINEQUEST will not pay towing.
LIMITED LIABILITY:
ENGINEQUEST's
liability under this warranty is limited solely to the repair or replacement of defective product.
ENGINEQUEST
SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR SPECIAL, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, EXEMPLARY,
OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, LOSS OF PROFITS OR PRODUCTION OR COMMERCIAL LOSS IN ANY WAY (including for rental cars or towing fees), REGARDLESS OF WHETHER SUCH CLAIM IS BASED IN CONTRACT, WARRANTY, TORT, NEGLIGENCE, STRICT LIABILITY OR ANY OTHER THEORY OF LIABILITY, EVEN IF

STANDARD REIMBURSEMENT FOR LABOR:
The amount of Labor credit for repairs will be determined by multiplying the standard labor rate per hour (based on your area, not to exceed .00 USD) by the factory time shown in Chilton's and
Motor's manuals. Not to exceed 0.00.
LAW:
These terms are governed by Nevada law (without regard to conflict of law principals).
This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state.
No dealer nor any agent or employee thereof, is authorized to extend or modify this warranty. This warranty may be distributed in a state(s) which may not allow the limitation or exclusion of some warranties or of incidental or consequential damages. In the event that any provision of this warranty
should be or become invalid or unenforceable, the remaining terms and conditions hereof shall remain in full force and effect. All returns must be accompanied by a Return Goods Authorization (RGA) issued by Customer Service.
