Description

This letter scale is by the very famous Sampson Mordan, the most highly sought-after maker.
The base is made from solid wood and houses the 4 spots for weights. I believe only 2 brass weights are original to the set .
The letter pan is beautifully engraved with the following:

There are also some markings under the counter tray
The scale needs some care:
the mechanism works as designed but is slightly bent and the legs connect unevenly on the strike plates of the base
One round strike plate on base is loose
Only 2 weights appear original to the set
Wood needs to be refinished
Only 3/4 of the felts remain and are stained and partially uglued
Dating to the
Victorian
era, around 1900, this is an impressive desk / office accessory. The scale measuring 10 1/2" x 5 3/4" x 4 1/4" tall.
