    Description

Please email with any questions. Antique Fairbanks mercantile scale of cast iron with a one pound weight and a brass pan. 10 1/2" long base has cast leaves and the name FAIRBANKS cast onto the center round. The red paint is original and there are two water decals of a hunting dog -one above each side over FAIRBANKS. The center top bar has a water decal of a flower. The brass pan is 12 1/2" long, 7" across. The red paint shows wear and loss. We also include an original
booklet of FAIRBANKS' STANDARD RAILROAD, HAY, COAL PLATFORM AND COUNTER SCALES,
size is 6" by 4" with 32 pages. The pages inside are bound with the original sewn string binding. Although we did not see a publication date, this booklet came out of a large collection of business ephemera from Carhart & Curd- a hardware store in Macon, Georgia that ceased business long before 1900 and most of the business-related paper we found was from 1870-1880.There is an illustration in the booklet that looks like this scale, called a "grocers trip scales, fancy painted with iron plate for weights". The booklet cover is not in great condition but the booklet is complete.
