ANTIQUE CALIFORNIA GOLD RUSH BLACK-RED-GOLD HAND-ENAMELED WOODEN CHINESE TEA BOX

Description

Here we have a one-of-a-kind ANTIQUE CALIFORNIA GOLD RUSH ERA, BLACK-RED-GOLD HAND-DECORATED WOODEN CHINESE TEA BOX.  This box would have contained Chinese export tea for shipping via one of the Pacific Ocean's great "Clipper" ships to San Francisco and from there to points beyond.  Constructed of wood paved with heavy paper, it was in turn hand-painted with glossy black enamel and decorated in red lettering and gold bordering (see photos).  The box measures approx. 10-1/4 inches on each side.  It is blacker and glossier than the pictures show (limitation of the phone camera).  While s
