Description
Vintage AIRCO400 Amp DC MCS Bumblebee
Model 4DDRM-24-A
Stick Welding Power Supply
Vintage Machine; proved to be difficult to find information about this model
Information was supplied to me over the phone
This welder was manufactured somewhere between the early 1940s and the late 1950's
It came out prior to the AIRCO AC/DC 300 Amp Bumblebee
Welder was acquired new from AIRCO by Purdue University
(Air Reduction, New York, New York)
Purchased for the Physics Lab, not for use welding
Obtained as a high-current power supply for experiments in electro-magnetism
It was not stellar in its performance in this application
An application it was not designed to fulfill
The Physic's Department relegated to a Store Room and then the Warehouse
Overlooked and ignored there until found in the summer of 2018
It was sold at auction
Later donated to BED Kitties Animal Rescue and Sanctuary
As a fund raising item
I do not think t
his welder has ever been used for welding u
ntil
I hooked it up to 230 VAC 3-Phase Power
I installed a ground lead and a stinger lead
and ran a few test beads t
o see if it worked or not,
using 1/8" E6011 welding rod, at 85-95 amps
It welds perfectly; it is very easy to start an arc; it is very stable
It welds as stable as the 400SS Pow-Con Welders I used installing radar equipment aboard U.S. Navy ships
This welding machine is a Prepper's Dream
It is pure Analog DC Welding Power
There are no Micro-Circuits to be blown by thunderstorms, power spikes, or brown-outs
No Digital control boards that cost from 0 to 00 to have repaired
This is pure non-stop 70-400 Amp DC Welding Power
This is the same quality welding machine that AIRCO gained its fame providing machines for the fabrication of bridges around Manhattan, NY
This is the same quality welding machine that AIRCO provided for the erection of the Empire State Building and other NYC skyscrapers
This is the same quality machine that AIRCO provided for the farbrication of the U.S. Naval Vessels during WW-II, the Korean War
, and later
The insides of this welder look like the day it came out of the packing materials
There is no smoke, no dust, no discoloration
The exception being some replaced and/or missing cover screws
I think the originals were lost while the power supply was used, without the cover, for physic experiments
There is also some minor superficial surface rust on the support legs
This is a chance to own a functional, reliable piece of American History
A chance to own it while benefiting a wonderful Animal Rescue and Sanctuary
This machine is offered by
"BED" Kitties Rescue and Sanctuary
"Blind, eclectic (or eccentric) and Disabled" Kitties Rescue and Sanctuary
