    Description

1844 Dahlonega half eagle.  Genuine. Currently housed in a third party slab.  An inexpensive way to own an historic example from this mint.
My experience (opinion) with this grading service is they grade almost entirely on a coin's details and do not take issues into consideration in the grade.  I am not a professional numismatist, but in my opinion this is a VF details coin that has been artificially toned.  It is relatively dark and has a coppery look.  Too dark to be natural, in my opinion.  The toning, on the obverse in particular, looks a little "streaky" like it was painted on with a brush or sponge.  It may have been done to hide an old cleaning or to make the coin look more "original".  I don't see any significant scratches or defects on the coin.  The magnified scans are a little lighter than the full slab scans.  I am being critical of the coin because I don't want someone buying the coin thinking it would cross over to PCGS or NGC.  I am 99% sure it would be a "no grade" or "details" due to artificial toning.
I plan on listing paper money and gold coins next week.

There is no sales tax on coins in South Carolina and multiple other states.  If eBay charges sales tax in a state that exempts collectible coins, dispute the charge with eBay.  I have had to do it several times with paper money purchases which are also tax exempt in South Carolina.
    No international buyers please.
