Description
This is a very old John Chatillon & Sons scale that is etched "John Chatillon & Sons Makers - New York U.S.A. - Not legal for Use in Trade". The brass scale weights up to 25 lbs. My grandparents ran a country store in Virginia from the 1930s onward. This scale likely dates to the late 1800s. (Grandparent's parents also owned country stores.) Similar scales were used to weight fish and meats. The scale is tarnished and needs to be cleaned but is in good shape for its age. The scale measures 11" from top of hanger to bottom of hook. This is an excellent gift idea for vintage tool collectors. The John Chatillon & Sons Company was formed in 1835 in New York and 2010 marked the 175th anniversary of Chatillon products and innovations in force measurement and weighing. The Chatillon brand is part of the AMETEK Sensors, Test & Calibration business unit.
